Leave us Linux users out of it :)

Schofield's famed for talking in the most glowing terms, and incessantly, only about products from Redmond.

I noted, however, that Nick's post this morning attempted to compare internet radio negatively with DAB, and did a *very* poor job at it.

When Schofield talks about audio quality, he's completely wrong (nobody cares), but Nick's enthusiastically justifying a "walled garden" content environment while ironically doing so in the medium which -- always and without exception, ever -- destroys every walled garden it runs up against.

Yes, when Jo Punter has 13000 stations to choose from, she's more likely to tune into one she's heard of before than not. But outside the walled garden, the opportunity to make her hear about a brand new station is always there.

With DAB? Not so much.

Eventually (possibly shortly after someone remembers how multicast-capable IP routers are supposed to be configured) there'll be mobile bandwidth enough for the internet-radio scenario to work.

At that point, DAB has *nothing* going for it. Sadly it sounds like Nick's just clinging to the idea that it'll take a while. Fair enough - I've been waiting for a decade already. I'll bet cash money I don't have to wait out another, though.
