I didn't read any of the article, I just fell on the floor laughing at the picture. Is that James Cridland far right, under the name James Andrews? It looks awfully like him

Will drivetime necessarily be the preferred slot for a daytime network show? I know Ofcom have disallowed breakfast, but Smooth have chosen mid-morning for their Mark Goodier show. Might drive not be too cluttered for a network show - with more natural local content - travel, longer news etc than mornings?

Otherwise, I agree that any networked show would have to be something special to drive an audience. can't see how networking some generic GCap jock - however good they are - is going to produce better programming than a good local presenter, yet network shows inevitably sound "one step removed" from the local audience. You'd really need a name, as in the Mark Goodier example - a Scott Mills or a Jamie Theakston or someone - to make this work, I would think.

Another point worth making is the age old "where will the talent come from?" I can understand the business logic to dropping the local shows and getting the big names. But where will the next generation come from? As a former weekend jock (and subsequently losing the shift due to cuts.) I can sympathise with those trying to get in the industry and also worry about the next generation of Moyles' and Mills'.

Can I also add how much of a fan I am of Jayne Young's radio/new media blog!
